No child’s success should be limited by their socioeconomic background.
The Fair Education Alliance is a cross-sector coalition of organisations tackling educational inequity.
Our members work across different sectors, phases of education, regions of the country and areas of expertise. They support children and young people at every stage – from cradle to career – and work across more than 24,000 education settings. Crucially, this includes 95% of schools in the most income‑deprived areas.
Rising poverty, increasing inequity and insufficient school funding all contribute to the stark reality that, on average, a child growing up in poverty is already 10 months behind other pupils by the end of primary school. This increases to nearly two years behind by the time they take their GCSEs. These gaps stretch beyond academic attainment into early development, wellbeing, essential skills, and employment.
We won’t address these deep-rooted issues in isolation. As an infrastructure organisation, we help connect top‑down and bottom‑up approaches, weaving together the fabric of a fairer system. That's why our work is rooted in systems change - tackling not just policies and practices, but also the resources, relationships, power and mental models that hold inequity in place.
By taking this system-wide approach, through our three core strands – Collective Voice, Collective Action and Collective Strength – we can bring lasting change.
